- On weekends and holidays the parking area fills up by 10am so arrive early or you may have to walk 2-3 miles. Directions: North on Interstate 5 from San Diego or South on Interstate 5 from Los Angeles and Orange County. Exit Baseline Road, go west and south past the power plant to the State Beach Entrance (don’t exit onto the surfer beach exit just before the power plant). Once you pay the parking fee continue on through the cap ground to the end of the road (about 3 miles) to beach trail #6. Follow the trail, which turns into a dirt road down to the beach. At he beach turn left and continue along the beach about 15 minutes, past the last lifeguard tower to the nude area. The gay section is at the far south end. Sometimes it spills over onto Camp Pendleton property, beyond the fence. It is beyond the fence where raids do occur by military police so proceed with caution and the knowledge that you are on military property.
